In the following sentense, is the word "linked" a past tense verb or a past participle? If it is a past tense verb, what is its subject and what is its object? If it is a past participle, what is its subject?
Research commissioned by Britains Food Standards Agency found a clear link between additives and hyperactivity in children, a major cause of classroom breakdown and even linked by earlier research to delinquency as children grow older. |

Here, it is a past participle form used as an adjective. It seems to be referring to hyperactivity.
The sentence is not brilliant. A better ending would be
"....hyperactivity in children, a major cause of classroom breakdown, which has even been linked by earlier research to delinquency as children grow older."
In this version "linked" would be a past participle used with the present perfect.
Hope helps,
