Despite instant communications in a globalized age, issues of human heart remain. Many people are lonely, or in routines that discourage knowing the depth of one another. We are trapped in shallow conversations and the whole point now is to think, which is sometimes painful.
What does the underlined sentence mean?
Thanks!

It means "there are still questions connected to emotions and feelings" (which are not solved by instant (but shallow) communication)
Hope helps,

Not necessarily. The version quoted, is slightly unusual, but not wrong, unless you're talking medically. _________________ All my answers refer to British English.

Plenty of examples of the word heart being used without an article.
Learn the poem by heart.
Take heart, lose heart.
A man of great heart.
It depends whether you are referring to the singular physical organ, or the uncountable emotional capacity. _________________ All my answers refer to British English.
