She was hot again, red and untidy and looking like the last sort of girl any man would want to take on as a stepdaughter.

Is there special meaning to the "red" and "hot"?

Do they mean that she loses her temper easily?

Thanks!

Jason

Hard to be 100% sure without more context, but my impression is that it's just describing physical facts,: she feels hot and so her face has gone red.

If you have any more of the same paragraph, that might help.

Best wishes,
Ian

For a second she felt as though she might make a scene. If she were no more than four or five years old and could cry wildly in anger on the floor!
Instead, she felt her smile again. She rushed forward and threw her arms round Sarah and kissed her wildly, knocking her hat crooked and making her cry out.
"You look great, mom!" Charlotte cried and knew she was shouting. She was hot again, red and untidy and looking like the last sort of girl any man would want to take on as a stepdaughter.

It still just seems like physical symptoms, caused by the awkward situation of meeting her mother's new partner and finding him hard to accept.

To me, it doesn't really add anything about what her character is like under normal circumstances. But others may disagree.

Hope helps,
Ian
