In a certain English forum in Japan a discussion is going on which is right , " The film has a happy ending." or " The film has a happy end." Here I would like to know what are your interpretations of these two sentences when you read them rather than which is right. _________________ Hiromichi |

Happy ending is normally heard about books, films, stories etc. it has the sense of how the story finishes.
Happy end sounds a bit strange, more physical, almost like talking about the last few cms of celluloid!
Hope helps,

Active Voice: the subject does an action to an object.
Mr. Doe (subject) completed (action) the tax return (object) before the April 15 deadline.
When we write in the passive voice, we add some form of the helping verb "to be" (am, is, are, was, were, being, or been) to an otherwise strong verb that really did not need help. |

Thank you for your comment, but I do not understand its relevancy to my original question. _________________ Hiromichi |

| Also, Peter, why did you make the same question yourself? I'm deleting that and my answer, because IanT answered it here correctly. |

Hiomichi: I'm afraid PeterAlex's comment has no relevance at all.
It is not quite clear what he is doing here, but very few of his comments are genuinely helpful, in my view. The above is one of the worst.
Best wishes,
