Should "fell" in a quotation below be " felled" ?
'fell a laughing ' seems verb + object, fall ill is verb + adjective(compliment).
Fell is a transitive verb while fall is an intransitive verb.
Henry Fielding: “Every Body fell a laughing, as how could they help it?”

Hmm that's pretty hard for me to answer. Maybe you will get someone else who can give an idea. I'll just say it sounds okay the way it is for what it is--a type of English that is not standard at all. More of a dialect.
"I'm a gonna be a leavin' now." (Not sure that's right, but it's sort of the same things.) |
