I'm not sure what you want commented on, but "much" is for non-count nouns, and "many" is for count nouns, and your sentence most likely would be:
We are using too much fossil fuel.
If you were to say, "We are using too many fossil fuels" it sounds odd because fossil fuels would be coal, gas, oil, etc., but I don't think the number of different kinds of fossil fuels is the problem. |

Many and much are adjectives that describe the amount of something.
Many is used for quantifiable nouns, like suns.
Much is used for unquantifiable nouns, like sunlight.
Some nouns can be both countable and uncountable, depending on context. Be mindful of how you use these nouns in your writing, because whether you choose many or much depends on how you use the noun in question. |
