Hello teachers.
I can't understand some part of this passage gramatically. Could you help me?
"Born and his team put 15 volunteers in bed at midnight and told them they would be woken at 6 a.m. on the first morning and at 9 a.m. on the other two mornings. When the volunteers knew they would be woken at six, levels of a central stress hormone began increasing around 4:30 a.m. But those expecting to wake at nine and rudely awakened at six experienced no such increase in hormone levels."
I think "being" is omitted from the sentence as below. Am I correct?
"Those expecting to wake at nine and ( being ) rudely awakened at six experienced no such increase in hormone levels"
In that case, can I paraphrase this sentences like this?
"Those who expected to wake at nine and were rudely awakened at six experienced no such increase in hormone levels."
Thanks in advance.

Hello Yukineko,
Yes, I agree with Lorikeet, your paraphrase works very well.
Regarding the omission of 'being', it's not incorrect. 'those expecting to wake at nine and rudely awakened at six' is actually one big adverbial phrase that describes the people in question, so the verb 'being' isn't needed.
I hope that helps! _________________ - Roger
