Hello! I'm KotBehemot and I'm from Poland. I'm very curious what people from other countries think about Poland. I was talking with my friends yesterday and they said that most of people think that Poland is a country of drunks and thiefs (we found an article about Poland). I can't believe it Exclamation It is true that this is how people see us? Please tell me what do You think about my country.
Thank you.

Many years ago, Polish people had a reputation of being very unintelligent. Stupid Polish jokes were common. But then the Poles organized the Solidarity Labor Union that opposed the oppressive communist dictatorship. Everyone expected Soviet troops to move in and crush the new revolution like they did in Hungary in 1956 or Czechoslovakia in 1968, but the Polish people did not stop till they overthrew the dictatorship. So now, Polish people are respected for being strong and brave. They started the movement that freed most of Eastern Europe from Soviet tyranny.

No, I certainly don't see that at all. The people of Poland were very brave to stand up for their freedom. People who negatively judge an entire race of people are ignorant and really don't know any better.

In Britain most people have a high regard for Poland (as a country and as a nation)

However, in America many people think that Polish immigrants (called Polacks) are unintelligent.

Simlilarly, in Britain many people think that the Irish are unintelligent, and yet they have respect for the country.

Hey my name is Ksenia. I'm Russian and I don't think anything bad about Polish people! I don't know anyone Polish but I've been to Poland once. It's a beautiful country! So don't worry, there are negative stereotypes about all countries, and they are almost always wrong.
