behaving like an overgrown schoolboy
I thought it meant the opposite.
Could anyone explain?

overgrown schoolboy refers to immature...
overgrown by itself means than it has grown larger than usual. that pumpkin has overgrown to weigh 35 lbs (they are normally 5-20 lbs).
sorry - i don't know metric measurements well, so i don't try...
