Here I am again, asking question about causal American spoken English. I found this phrase from the movie "HITCH", when Albert tries to get a date with a celebrity Allegra. Then Will Smith responses to his attempt as "Swinging for the fence".

Swinging for the fence is a baseball term. It means trying to hit a homerun. I guess he is trying to do something difficult.
