Dear teachers:
Could you please tell me which the correct answer is and why, because as to me "distant" and "remote" are synonymous?
"Remember that dangers can threaten you in a city or at home as well as in _____ regions. (distant or remote)
I appreciate your help.
Best wishes,

Hello Valja
"Remote" can mean "distant"; but it's often used with an additional sense of "out of the way", or "remote from the places where most people live", or "remote from modern society".
If a region is described as "remote", for example, there's an implication that it's difficult to reach, lacking in modern conveniences, and perhaps sparsely populated. This is not true of "distant", however, which simply relates to relative location.
So when you're in Tokyo, Paris is "distant"; but it isn't "remote" in the sense I've described above.
Have a good Sunday,
