Hi Very Happy ,

we use ANY with countable nouns in plural and with uncountable nouns in questions and affirmative sentences.

Why, then, do we say: Would you like SOME ice in your drink?

I always thought 'ice' is an uncountable noun. Why, then, SOME Question

TIA,
Kate.

There are exceptions (as always!) in English..............

Also, grammar and "usage " can differ.

Generally - "any" is used when asking...."Do we need any......?"

and when saying no....."No, we don't need any....."

"some" is used when saying yes...."Yes, we need some....."

However, the accepted "rules" (grammar) change over time as people

begin to use ("usage") the language in different ways. What people

become used to hearing and saying eventually changes ths rule.
