Hello everyone.
Are both #1 and #2 below grammatically correct for the blank in the following sentence?
The final human toll from mad cow disease could be higher than ( ) because of a potential risk from blood transfusion.
1. is conventionally thought
2. it is conventionally thought

To make sure, let me ask you one more similar question.
Are #1, #2, and #3 below all grammatically correct for the blank in the following sentence?
The cost of living is much lower here than ( ).
1. in my own country
2. is in my own country
3. it is in my own country

That looks ok to me; but "what is conventionally expected" might be more appropriate, with this example.
