I have a problem with some sentence. I do anderstand what does it mean, but part of it just bothers me and sounds strange:
He failed the test 'much to the disappointment' of his parents.
Is it some special construction of a sentence or something...?
Thanks

| It is sort of a special construction of a sentence; it shows an emotional reaction by someone else. I've seen the structure used with other words, like joy, dismay, delight, and surprise. |
