I think 'defense' is a noun.
But in a korean-English dictionary, it says 'defense' can be used as a verb in sports. Right? If so, give me an example. |

I've looked the word up in three different dictionaries, Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English, Collins Cobuild Lexicon, and Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary.
According to them, the word is not used as a verb.
Which one would you trust more? |

Hello sejpdw -
To defense - to furnish with defenses (fortify) - seems to have become obsolete....
other than rather obscure references when talking about sports - ie:
a) to impede the progress of - "the player with the ball was thoroughly defensed" ;
b) to break up or defend against a particulr play - "defense the single wing running pass formation". :) Philo |

OOPS - typo...put an "a" in that ""particulr" and presto - you've got
"particular". ;) Philo |
