Dear teachers,
Who can help me with these two questions?
1. "the government has helped the basic knowledge among the population, telling what is to be done when an archaeological find is made." Why "spreading " is used here , why not " spread"?
2.--- Have you graduated from college?
--- Yes,________.
A. I studied French for two years.
B. I have studied French for two years
C. I had studied French for two years.
Which one is the best answer? Why?

2. I know A is the best answer but I don't know how to explain it and it's frustrating. Hopefully someone else will be able to. For #1 I don't understand your question.
