Please tell me if the following sentences are acceptable (a) or totally wrong (tw)

1.Austrians dress up when they go shopping
Austrians are dressed up when they go shopping

Is there any difference in meaning?

2.Modern apartments tend to the other extreme.
Modern apartments turn to the other extreme.

Can tend/turn be used synonymously?

3.Christmas and Easter are commen for making merry.

is this structure okay?

peace

klafterreith:

Here are the correct versions:

1."Austrians dress up when they go shopping" and "Austrians are dressed up when they go shopping" mean the same thing.

2.Modern apartments tend to the other extreme.
Modern apartments turn to the other extreme.

Can tend/turn be used synonymously? Yes.

3.Christmas and Easter are common for making merry.
Is this structure okay? Yes, but better to say, It is common to make merry at Christmas and Easter. Even better, It is common to have fun at Christmas and Easter. "Make merry" is not used much anymore.

Good Luck!!!!
