Dear Teachers,

1. You maybe better off without her.
- What does better off mean here?

2. Think it through before you take action.
- Think it through here means Think it twice, right?

3. I have many girlfriends ( I mean just friends, not girlfriend), so would people misunderstand me if I said this?

4. You just have to suck up all the courage you have inside of you and let it all out.
- What does suck up mean here?

Thanks a lot to Teachers,

Stevenukd

It means your life may be better without her than it would be with her. (It sounds like either she has left you or you are thinking of leaving her, and your friend is trying to tell you that in the end, you would be happier that way.)

I think it means think about all the consequences of doing it before you make a decision. Think about what will happen if you do it.

This is an interesting one. If you say "girlfriend" with the stress on "girl" it means she is that special girl that you are dating or whatever. If you say "I have many girl friends." with the stress on "friends" it shows that the words are separate, and don't have the same meaning. However, it is still possible that people could be confused.

It means gather. Take all the courage that you have, put it together, and use it.

Lorikeet is correct in that #3 is at times confusing.

I have found that using female friends or male friends eliminates this confusion.
