1. It is hard work, we enjoy it_____.
Is "though" or " although" suited to fill in the blank?
2. A large quantity of earth is being washed away. This sentence is correct. Then this one:
Large quantities of earth is or are being washed away.
Is "is" or "are" correct? |

In conversation, it would be fine to say (note punctuation changes):
"It's hard work. We enjoy it, though." Translation: "It's hard work; however, we enjoy it," or, "It's hard work. Nevertheless, we enjoy it."
In this sense, "though" means "however" or "nevertheless." My sense of it is that it is better to avoid "though" at the end of a sentence in proper writing.
At the beginning of a sentence, "though" usually means "although" or "while" or "nevertheless." It's not quite the same as when used at the end of the sentence, though I can't say precisely why.
Yours truly, CP |

| If this can help solve CP's puzzle, a sentence initial 'though' is a conjunction similar to 'although' and 'eventhough'. A sentence final 'though' is a modifier similar to 'however'. |
