Hi everyone. What does the following expressions mean:
1. by the day - it means day by day or what?
from song: It keeps getting stranger by the day
2. Keep it real
3. Is there any difference between "as it were" and "so to speak"?
4. live ammunition
Thanks in advance |

"1. by the day - it means day by day or what?

Can mean day by day, every day, increasingly over time.
"2. Keep it real"
A recent U.S. slang expression meaning to be straightforward, honest, or true--even blunt and aggressive--no matter what the consequences.
"3. Is there any difference between "as it were" and "so to speak"?"
No, not really.
"4. live ammunition"
Unfired ammunition, as opposed to blanks.
