Dear Teachers,
1. Later I found out she was only 15, not that big a deal I thought.
- not that big a deal I thought means not that important I thought, right?
2. You must respect the wishes of her parents if you want to be on their good side.
- to be on their good side means to be loved by them, right?
3. When it comes to love, age flies out the window.
- age flies out the window here means age doesnt matter, right?
4. Last night I met her at the movies.
- at the movies means at the cinema, right?
Thanks a bunch to Teachers,

1. Correct. But I would put a comma before "I thought."
2. You want them to like you enough to let you date their daughter, but if they don't love you, at least they don't hate you. You don't want them to dislike you, which would be getting on their bad side, so you respect their wishes, treat them politely, etc.
3. Yes. When age flies out the window, it is completely erased from the equation.
4. Exactly right. In the U.S.A., you hear "movies" far more often than "the cinema," except from film critics. It is short for "moving pictures," as they were first called. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
