I had never heard this expression, so I googled it and found a couple of places where "play someone smart" was used.
In one case, a fake reporter was asking embarrassing questions of celebrities. The reporter asked Denise Richards what it was like to play someone smart. He was asking her what it was like as an actress to play the role of a smart person, implying that she wouldn't know from experience.
Similarly, someone wondered what it would be like to see Will Smith play someone smart in a movie. Someone else claimed that Catherine Zeta Jones can play someone smart, as when she acted in "Ocean's 12."
Another person used it to refer to playing a game against a smart opponent -- playing someone smart.
Hope that helps! _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
