Dear friends:
I wanted to improve my English by means of watching English movies in computer. But I was frustrated that I didn't see what were these people saying in the movies. I have watched the movie " Notting Hill" many times. I still don't understand it . There are many vocabularies and slang in the movie that I can't get it.
Is watching English movies a good way to learn English?
Did anyone give it a try? Did it work? How did you do that?
Please explain the way to me. And sorry about my poor English.
Thanks. |

dragonfly - i would suggest watching movies in english for limited reasons. there is no way that you can understand everything that is said, however, when you are watching movies in english, pay close attention to how sentences, questions, and answers are formed and spoken. written english is different than spoken english. when you read in english, reading aloud will help you in pronunciation and practice in forming sentences.

Movies with English subtitles can be useful to see what the actors are saying. It can be difficult to get all the words -- even native speakers have trouble understanding different dialects and accents of English. Of course, sometimes the subtitles don't exactly match the dialogue . . . .
It may have limited benefits, but watching TV or movies in English can help with comprehension and pronunciation. Enjoy the work! _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
