Can "incidents" be used in stead of "events"?

Hi Junkomama,

No. Incidents are notable events, usually singular and distinct in nature. Even if they are grouped as more than one, their occurances are usually thought of as uncommon. Traffic jams happen every day. They're not usually thought of as incidents.

There was an incidence of momentary panic in the room during the power outage.

Incidents of testicular cancer are rare.
