Though I can not give you a sufficient background, I do not understand " pull a Koizumi." Koizumi is a name of the current Japanese prime minister and Abe is expected to succeed him.
My question is to be translated to:What does "pull + a + Person's name" mean?
Please help me. "koyaku" is policy pledge.

To add my two cents to the Yasukuni issue, the most
surprising development is Abe's cautiousness on the
issue. One would have expected him to "pull a Koizumi,"
make a "koyaku" to regularly visit, ignore the opinion
polls, and hope for eventual vindecation. Indeed, if
Abe was serious about continuing Koizumi's policy of
trying to break the taboo against visiting Yasukuni he
would have visited on August 15th as well.

To 'pull a (person's name)' is to do something similar to what (person's name) did. This is especially true if the first person is noted (known/famous for) doing a particular thing.

For instance:

Harry Houdini was a magician who was famous for being able to escape under seemingly impossible conditions. (He was known as an escape artist.)

So to "pull a Houdini" would be to escape.

One cop might say to another:

"Watch this guy. He may try to pull a Houdini."

Nef, Thank you very much. This expression is convenient. Someday I will use it.
