I've a question:
Which is more accurate?
A great amount of energy RELEASES when the atoms split.
OR
A great amount of energy IS RELEASED when the atoms split.

I would choose "is released," because the engergy is released by the splitting of the atom. E = m X c squared

I would also say "is released". Because a great amount of energy doesn't release himself from nowhere, it has been made to release e.g. because of the nuclear fission.
