I love him, that's all I can say about Haruki Murakami. I read Dance, Dance, Dance; Wild Sheep Chase; Norwegian Wood; Kafka on the shore, and a dozen of short stories, they are just fascinating. I guess that it is really worth reading!

I read "Wild Sheep Chase" and "Norwegian Wood". They say Murakami is a literature for girls, but I don't think so.

I am also a great fan of Murakami and read most of his books. Why do you like or love his books?
Personally, the rythm of his sentences and the unique world he creats lead me to a totally different world. I felt somehow the same when I read
DIE VERWANDLUNG, written by Franz kafka.

Murakami's stories makes me feel more positive than Kafka's, though.
I don't know why but I always become fully charged after finising the stories.

Do you feel the same?

I love Haruki Murakami very much. He is famous all over the world. I read almost all his books. I think his novels are very interesting. Recently, I read Kafka on the shore.
But, it was difficult a little... My favorite novel of him is Wild Sheep Chase.
I hope that he announces new novels.

Im majoring in Language and my professor told us about this japanese author. A book he recommended for reading was (Ill make a litheral translation of the books title), because I know only the portuguese name. See if its correct: "My Dear Sputnik".

I read South of the Border, West of the Sun and was quite unhappy with the (English) translation, but I managed to finish the book and the story stayed with me for weeks. I could not get Hajime out of my mind. He just struck me as a very lonely person, like me, like my friends.

And then I read Norwegian Wood, and this book is even "worse" than the first one. Worse because the effect is stronger. The translation is so much better than South of the Border. And the main character, Toru Watanabe, is just so lonely, you want to reach out to him. (Someone on this thread mentioned Murakami writing literature for girls, I don't care. I just love this author.) After reading Norwegian Wood, I could not stop thinking of Watanabe's life.

When I told a friend I was reading Murakami, she said she liked him because his stories were surreal; and I said I liked him because his stories were so real to me. And that's because my friend only read the surreal ones, and I have only read two, both of which can be said to be love stories.

I haven't read the surreal ones; perhaps I would like them too as I like surreal stories and magic realism and I count Kafka and Garcia Marquez as two of my favorite authors.
