Although his mom told him not to go to the city, John went there anyways. John wanted to pursuit his journal career after he just graduated from school. He was the editor in chief in his school. In his senior year, he went the best journal award in school. His article was gotten attention when he broke up a scandal in his state.
Are they correct?
Thank you |

Hi welkins2139.
You need to change the tense to past perfect because the events happened before John went to the city. I'm not exactly sure about the meaning of your last sentence.
Although his mom had told him not to go to the city, John went there anyway. John had wanted to pursue a career in journalism after graduation. He had been the editor in chief at his school newspaper. In his senior year he had won the best journalist award for an article about a scandal involving the government in his state. _________________ Mary W. Ng

Mary
Why does welkins2139 need to use perfect tense? (With simple past tense) it is clear that everything happened before John went to the city. |

Hi 2006,
I suggested the past perfect tense on the assumption that John graduated before he went to the city. If he didn't, the past simple tense would be fine. _________________ Mary W. Ng
