Is it possible to use ' nevertheless ' instead of ' in spite of ' in the following sentence? Like...

We went out in spite of the rain.
We went out nevertheless the rain.

Is the second sentence grammatically correct?

Thank you for you help.

We went out in spite of the rain.
We went out although it was raining.
It was raining, but we went out anyway.
It was raining. Nevertheless, we went out.

Those are all about the same meaning to me. (And 2006 is right. Your second sentence isn't correct.)
