1.The man is mistaken about where his friend lives. -- This is the normal statement of condition.
2.The man mistakes where his friend lives. -- This suggests an habitual activity (quite odd in this context)
3.The man is mistaking where his friend lives. -- Right now, we observe him committing the geographical error (again, an unusual situation).
