Hi every body!!! Very Happy

For my, God is the most important in my life, because God give me all that I need, my work, my family, my studyes, the hope, the peaceful in the bad times. In the mornings and in the nighy when I pray, I felt a peace in my heart, because in my job I work with a lot of strees.

I want to know if someone in this forum feel or believe in all that I wrote or if someone think diferent.

I will witing for their replays.......... Arrow

You raise a good topic. It has already had much discussion. You can look here http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/student/viewtopic.php?p=88983#88983 for the thoughts of someone with strong faith like yours.

Peace,

It's a bit chauvinistic (maybe even narcissistic) to say "God is the most important in my life" in an international forum. I think you are talking about your God, and thinking your God is everyone else's God.

If you could identify which God is your God, there could be a better understanding of your statement - and maybe better discussion.

Which God do you believe in?

I think you believe in the God of Abraham. Specifically, the Christian version of the God of Abraham. Jews and Muslims also believe in the God of Abraham - but have different mythology in near history.

So, which God do you believe in? the Abrahamic God? The Hindu Gods? Maybe Taoist religion's Hero/Ancestor Gods?

Laughing God is the projection of all ideals human have, he is the most gracious etc... That's the religious idea of God, I think. (I read some books.)
Of course the cultures have different names for their God in different languages, but there is no religion, which says that it's God isn't almighty and worth to be praised at.
So at the end, all religion aim at: "God is the most important in your life", in Christianism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam...

Personally, I wouldn't count this as narcissistic.

I would agree with your argument here ad-miral.

However, when most people say "God is the most important [thing] in my life" they are usually referring to THEIR God. And to me, that is at least chauvinistic.

That's why I ask "Which God?"

Now I got your point! Yeah ok, saying: "My God is the most important thing in the world, for me, for you, and for the rest of the world." Is really chauvinistic. (the belief in the superiority of the own group)

But maybe jvegap223 didn't mean it in such a harsh way. Maybe he just wanted to say: "My God is the most important thing for me, your God should be the most important thing for you, and it's important to have a God you believe in, whether the God is Buddha, Christ, Shiva, Vishnu, or Allah."

That's why I would ask him first, before saying that jvegap223 is chauvinistic. Haha, I'm a very friendly guy, ain't I?

As an atheist, I don't believe there is a God in the world. Sometimes I would say:"Thank God", that's just an expression for appreciation, gratitude, etc. I don't really mean it.

I know religion isn't a nice topic to discuss about, because everyone's faith is rooted and unchangeable. I still think that sentence makes much sense:"No religion, No problem"

You are!

And you are probably right to give the benefit of the doubt. Smile

Not true sweet-pea. I was raised in a Christian family. Yet now I am a pantheistic philosophical Taoist.

I think it's ok to talk about nearly anything, as long as we don't degrade into insults and attacks, and be respectful of what is important to others.

Religion is the opium of weak minds. It does as good as opium does to your body. It makes you feel happy, but dumb.

Wow, I like your statement! It reminds me of Marx: "Religion is the opium of the mass"

What you say is right, but you have to agree that religion also made good people. You know, the most important is not whether you believe or not. 1. If you are a bad guy, a religion can't make you to a good guy, neither. 2. You don't need to have a religion to say that you are a good guy.
Think about 1 and 2
