I'm just curious of how everyone outside of the U.S. views American culture....
What do you think an American is?
What do you think American culture is?
If you meet an American, what do you expect him/her to be like?

People say not to generalize, but it's okay right now....I want your opinions. Wink

Hi, I'm really fascinated by american culture. I don't think that all americans are arrogant or destructive: it's impossible!
America is a young country but it has a culture: it has been the country of Emerson, James, Whitman, Wharol, Pollock, Miller and of other big personalities.
It is (and it has been) the land of opportunities and I don't think it's only a way of saying!
On the other hand it's a country so big and with so many different people and so multicultural that it has to be very difficoult to manage everything!
I've never been to U.S. but I hope I can visit it one day.
New York, Los Angeles, Miami have to be beautiful, but I think that real America is the small town that we have never heard, and I hope one day I'll visit also less known places in U. S.
Sorry for my english!

Come and visit me here in Monitor, Oregon! Very Happy The towns can't get much smaller than here. Wink

We only have a fire station, a school, one store, a telephone services provider, and a pub...

I actually don't live in the town, I live about two miles (~3 km) away.

You wont find it on very many maps.

I don't quite understand exactly what you meant in your last post, but I think I understand some of it. I'm sorry that you don't like the U.S, but I don't expect everyone too, of course. You have to realize of course that the U.S. you see from your country is very different than the U.S. you would see if you came to all the small towns and countrysides. It's hard to explain exactly what I mean, but the only part of the U.S. you can see from Egypt is the political side.

There is not one culture in America, there are several.
Each ethnic group in America continues to practice and pass on its own cultural traditions, beliefs and practices. That is one thing that is really great about America, you are free to express your cultural beliefs. Razz

As I read somewhere, USA is a melting pot. I think it's true. A lot of cultures live there side by side.
If I want to say something really American thing, I would say the farmers in the country. And the fast food places Very Happy

A lot of people think, if they go there, they will immediately be rich and well-to-do, because (they think) there are soo much possibility of works.
My niece and her husband went there, but they were really refracted, poor and bereft of hope when they came home.

But anyway, the USA gave a lot of talented persons to the world.

Ah, I thought you meant those little electronic devices glued to everyone's ear feeding them brain tumors and preventing them from paying attention to their driving.
Hang up and drive, dammit!
(sorry, private rant...)
