Laughing So true. So true. Okay, cookies and tea for everyone. Very Happy

Anyway, seriously speaking. Actually, many of the traditional symbols of Christmas (a holly wreath, a decorated tree, mistletoe, yule log on the fire, a sleigh pulled by reindeer) come out of Europe's pre-Christian era. Santa Claus is just a new manifestation of the Teutonic god Woden. (I've actually met a few fundamentalist Protestant Christians who were opposed to celebrating Christmas because it was so full of Catholic Christian and ancient pagan traditions.) The same could be said of many supposedly Christian or religious holidays (Easter, All Hallows Eve). What do chocolate bunnies have to do with Jesus being crucified?

Ultimately, a lot of these celebrations are just ancient cultural holidays that got co-opted by missionaries. Who cares what they are about then or now. As Admiral notes, it's another excuse for a festival (and for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, we need a colorful festival during the cold dark winter). And as a bonus, it has a theme of "giving", so you show generosity to your family, friends, neighbors, employees (on Boxing Day), and even complete strangers who just need a little help and kindness.

So have yourself a very merry Christmas.

It's always a hot day in Australia at Christmas - no snow here. My family will get up early to open the presents that are under the Christmas tree. Then we will go to the beach and have a picnic and swim with friends.

In the evening we will go to our Grandmother's house and eat a big turkey dinner and plum pudding. Even though it is a hot day, we still eat the traditional English hot dinner, as our ancestors came from England.
The we sit outside to get cool!

Merry Christmas Razz

I am in Australia now. I will go back China for holiday this Christmas. I miss my family. I also miss Chinese food very much Wink . In my hometown, we usually have parties in club in Christmas eve, but just young people.
