Woah, why'd you live there? For college or just fun? I'm learning Japanese because I'm interested in the culture & language. I went to Okinawa over the past 2 summers & LOVED it! I'd like to teach ESL in Japan after college & study abroad there during college.

Yeah, I was teaching ESL there for two years. Then I went to China and now I'm in Korea. I went there for the culture too. I had always been interested in Japanese history and I had watched a bit of anime while in university. I didn't want to be one of those English teachers who only meets other foreigners and never learns the language. I tried hard and met many friends and had a great time.
Unfortunately, I have never been to Okinawa (though I've gone scubadiving in Phuket). I wanna go sometime. I went almost everywhere else. I love snowboarding, so I went to Yuki Matsuri in Sapporo, you should go, it's awesome. Though, to be honest, I went with two Californian friends of mine and they had a bit of trouble with the cold Smile
If you want any tips on teaching there, I can help with that.

Hayde, you are an English teacher? No wonder your English is so wonderful.

Are you a gentleman or a lady?

Hi RedRose. My English isn't really that good. It should be better for a native speaker, but Canadian schools focus more on math and science than English Smile I am a guy (but I don't think I am a gentleman, too young Smile ).
I think I should compliment you on your English. I have read many of your posts and some of your poems. YOUR English is really good. I think many students on this board want to know how you became so proficient in English Smile ???

Hey, I didn't find any scholarships. Right after graduating from university, I went to Japan and worked as an English teacher. So I didn't need any. I had never left Canada actually until graduating Smile Sorry, I can't help you there ... Do you have any other citizenships other than American? If so, maybe you can get a working holiday visa and do the same.
Yuki Matsuri was so beautiful!

I'll try to post some pictures of it tonight if I can Smile

Eikaiwa (AEON). I think JET tends to be a better job, but AEON is the best of the big eikaiwas. Smile I stayed at the same one for 2 years.
