Hi All,

I am trying very hard to improve my English but i still have problems expressing myself sometimes. Instead of asking for a shortcut way to learn English, are there any rules that i can follow to improve my English ?

It's great to see all this enthusiasm from English learners on here, I only wish my students were this dedicated to learning Spanish.

However, I wanted to point out one small error from the original post (and Diana's correction). You said, [problems with English are] "effecting my progress in college." You need to say, "affecting my progress." This affect/effect confusion is a problem for native speakers as well. The verb "to affect" means to influence, alter, or change. An example: "Watching sad movies always affects me--they make me cry." The verb "to effect" means to bring about or make happen: "After six months, he was able to effect some changes at the company." This verb is not used very often in everyday speech. The problem is that the vowel sounds of e and a in the two words are very similar. Another problem is that the noun form is confusing, as well. I could rephrase my sentence as "Watching sad movies always has an effect on me--they make me cry." An effect is the result of something--"Bush's new policy had the effect of making the rich richer."

or
problems with English have an effect on my progress
am I right?

Muni--both of those are right, but the first one would probably be more common.

For Spanish, there is the site spanish.about.com, which has message boards and a bunch of articles about grammar, pronounciation, vocabulary, culture, and a lot more.

I've found some good sites:

http://www.lingolex.com/spanish.html
http://www.studyspanish.com
http://www.spanishunlimited.com/

and there are some excellent online dictionaries in many languages at www.wordreference.com

Buena suerte (good luck, in Spanish)

It's hot there, Romihi, but it's not humid so you might not be too uncomfortable. Also, it cools down at night. Have fun!
