Then allow communism to collapse in China so Taiwan and China can be together just like Germany.

Mongolian Barbarian invaded China,
and then Mandarin ruled China. That's why China has never invaded other countries. By the way, china is biger and biger by being invaded. If Chinese people only concern "Big China". The easist way is surrendering to Japan and US.

The time that Mongol and Manchu invaded China was just a little segment of the long history. And I have told you that Han Dynasty and Tang Dynasty were the strongest age of China,in which we still had peace with other weak countries.
If you know more history, you will find both in Han and Tang, half the middle asia was ours, and that was the biggest age of China but not after the invasion of barbarians.
By the way,I don't understand why should us surrender to Japan and US,maybe that's where are you from and what are you expectant, your are so naive, haaaaa. But if you do feel your country is not big enough,I think you should surrender to us and welcome. Wink

have you ever read the book 'the mouse that roared'? it was about a tiny country that declared war on the u.s. . the u.s. had its own problems so it surrendered. then the little country had to figure out how to get out of taking it[if i remember it right]
so maybe china, japan and the u.s. could all surrender to taiwan and china would be unified with even more land.

USA just will make action when its own benifits are infected ,at the beginging of WW2 the american didnt want to be involved in the war against japan or germany, they just want to benifit from the war ,cos they thought they were far from the battle field and if other country were destroied inthe war, they would be only one strong country, only after japan attacked them, they have to take actions to protect themselves but not other country,of course this to some extent help other country indirectly.

as to taiwan, you just dont know the history, the current difficult situation is just because china civil war,the US didnt broke into two parts because its own civil war,but now you US guys just to control the world without concerning other countris sovernity,US is really good at pretendint to be good guys to be involved in other countrys inner affairs, why should it be able to do like that?because of course it is the most power one in this world,it can keep thretening others to follow it,but in the surface, the US guys like to save face for itself, there always so many excuses for it self to influnce others, just like what they do in iraq ,but what is the proof to prove iraq has those killing weapons US before thought? US just want oil!

so, i think if taiwan has its own different culture, aims, policy
a refredum must be held
if its people wanna separate, its their decision

Just a few observations on what has been said.
1. Element - you say that China doesn't invade other countries. Not quite. China has attacked Vietnam and Russia during the last 40 years. Chinese people should also bear in mind that, technically, they have attacked the whole world - China fought against the UN during the Korean War. When China launched a fighter pilot into space a few years ago, the Japanese suggested that the Chinese no longer needed free food from Japan. The Chinese response was to say that if Japan stopped giving China free food, it would declare war on Japan! Very peaceful!
2. There has been some talk of the Mongolian invasion of China. Some historians believe that this invasion is the root cause of xenophobia in China. Interestingly, other areas invaded by the Mongols suffer from xemophobia - Russia and the Middle East.
3. Cen - you say that the US acts in its own interests. So what? So does every other country in the world, INCLUDING CHINA!
4. Cen - the US did not divide after the civil war because the generals of the south had the good sense to disband their armies.
5. Cen - the US just wants oil. Well, that's in their interest. So what? Look at China. China will not criticize Iran because it just wants oil from Iran. Same thing! I am not American, but NEVER dare to suggest that China is more moral than America. America holds itself to very high standards and sometimes fails to achieve those standards (e.g. Iraq). China sets itself very low standards and cannot even achieve those!
6. It is said that you can judge someone by the company they keep. America's closest allies include Norway, Denmark, and New Zealand. China's best friends are Burma, North Korea and Zimbabwe!

Oh, and Diana was absolutely spot on! Why can't Taiwan and China unite under a Taiwanese system?

PostPosted: Tue May 30, 2006 7:27 pm    Post subject: History lesson for Element Reply with quote

Apologies for making a third posting in a row, but I've just looked at pages 1 and 2 of this thread. I note that someone suggested Diana was a CIA spy. Well, other people have posted as much as her so, by that logic they must be Chinese spies. Is this Dave's ESL Cafe or 'Spies R Us?'

Element asked "What did your country (the USA?) do when 300,000 Chinese were massacred by Japanese in the city of Nanjing."
Element, you REALLY need a history lesson here! What did China do when this terrible massacre occurred? Let me tell you! The Japanese approached Nanjing from one side. The Chinese army withdrew from Nanjing and surrounded the city on three sides, letting the Japanese enter through the fourth. The Japanese, as everyone knows, went on a terrible rampage of murder, torture and rape. What did the Chinese soldiers do? They stood by, shooting any Chinese civilians who ran towards them! Now, it must have been undescribably horrible for a Chinese woman to have been raped by Japanese soldiers, but where the hell is the sense in shooting a woman because she is trying to escape from such a fate? The Chinese army behaved in a disgusting manner.

Taiwan is NOT a country. It is not recognised as such by any other country. In my opinion (for what it's worth!), if Taiwan wants to be independent, that is something for the Taiwanese to decide. (A Taiwanese person is a resident of the ISLAND of Taiwan)

I'm a Taiwanese, of course. There is no reason I have to say that I'm a Chinese!

Dennis - If you want to be Taiwanese, but not Chinese, you'll get no argument from me. However, Taiwan is not NOW a country. It is a province of China. If the Taiwanese declare independence (please do it in 2008!), then you can correctly call yourself a person of Taiwanese nationality. Good luck to your brave island!

This is useless. Yes, everyone can continue their political and military struggles. But no one can force people to be someone they don't want to be. On the other hand, whether people say they're Chinese or Taiwanese is totally irrelevant to the reality.
