Futhermore, it does not exist anything, nation, people, age, culture, form of state, that you can define "all bad" or "all good".
Can a savage write The Divine Comedy, or The Hamlet? Can a savage build Notre Dame, or St Peter?... |
Which begs the question of what is a savage?
A person who acts savagely 100% of the time? How about 50% of the time? 5%? If a man eats human babies but paints beautiful pictures, is he a savage?
|
I do make this question. If you think that every sigle person who lived in a certain age, or people... is "savage", that it is a "dark" age or a "savage people", you are wrong. That's for both the western madieval age, and the Islamic world nowadays.
A person who eat children has got an ill mind. Shakespeare and Leonardo didn't eat children. I'm not making ridicoulous suppositions, but I'm speking about true examples... telling you that people who lived in "dark Ages" made great things for the whole mankind.

Even Mussolini made the trains run on time. Would it still be fair to label him a savage? |
I do not label Mussolini as a savage. He was a tyrann like many others, that's it.
can we come back in topic now?

these things are fully out of topic, but they support very well what I said...!
people think medieval to be a "dark age" because of crusades, inquisition, witch hunting... but if you think about it, this one should be also a "dark age" for the reasons that ad-miral mentions here above... Is this one a completely dark age? can we be all savages for those reasons? far wars that leaders - which we don't support - made?
I don't think so. and it is the same for the 1400s.... |

Can a savage write books like "thousand and one nights"? |
No, he can't. What's the point?
I was answering someonelse, who was saying that medieval people were kind of "savages". I've mentioned only western crafts and discoveries from 1000s to 1500s a.D. just to proof that dark ages don't exist. And this is true for every part of the world. Ad-miral, do you really pay attention to my replies? You should understand I haven't written that one to say "we are the best" or bullsh*** like those..

Maybe he wanted to forget Tibet, and maybe also Afghanistan and Hungary... Because some people think that only certain peoples, nations or parties are allowed to make wars. But please... Let's don't start a discussion in this way.... |

OK! Are Catholic priests savages according to BBC's panaroma last night - re: Large scale cover-up by Vatican of Child Sex Abuse!
The documentary was about the the Oath of Secrecy for priests, first brought out by the Vatican in 1962, which effectively forbid any publicity that would reveal any sexual abuse carried out by the priests. Todays contreversial Pope, had apparently furthered the cause by drawing up a new decree in 2001, demanding secrecy for all sexual offences!
According to this, all complaints should go to Vatican and not revealed to anyone else, not even the law enforcement agencies! The person in charge of the complainds was no other than today's Pope, who, apparently did nothing, but allowed re-allocation of such priests to different regions where they carried on with their sordid activities...
The program went on to give some statistical details, revealing that in U.S. alone over 4500 priests had been accused of abusing children! Father Patrick O'leary who was in charge of covering up such cases during 1996 in U.S., stated openly that they had a 7 million dollar budget from Vatican to pay and silence the victims! He eventually resigned his post, and is now working for victims of abuse.
U.S. Priest Oliver O'Grady, was interviewed and admitted to abusing more than 30 young victims! Apparently Vatican knew of his activities but he was moved from parish to parish, until he was arrested at a much later date!
Referring to the Ferns Report into clerical abuse (in Ireland), the program stated The report revealed that at least 21 priests had sexually abused young boys and girls in parishes across Co Wexford during the past 40 years (and that's just one county!). it involved over 100 children! Minister for Justice, Michael McDowell, is hoping to bring the terms of reference of a promised inquiry into child abuse in the Dublin archdiocese before the cabinet in a matter of weeks.
The program moved on to Brazil, to show an example of another Catholic priest who abused young boys, and was simply moved from one town on to another, in a similar way. It ended up stating that, currently there are 7 priests only from U.S. hiding in Vatican, and showed US prosecution service papers returned back to USA from Vatican, without being opened!
Apparently, the Pope can challenge and change the situation, but all efforts by the program makers to cummunicate with someone was furile - Vatican refused to communicate!
I am sure the abuse of children by religious cleric extends to all religions - but I never believed for a moment that it has been going on at this mammoth scale, or that the leaders have (are) actually been protecting these perverts! And these are members of the so called "civilised people of the modern age" as some of you put it! Very sad indeed...

Pedophilia is a sexual orientation which the whole Christian belief blames as "against nature".
Futhermore, sexual orientation does not have to do with culture, nor religion: tolerated or not, it is individual: there have always been pedophils in every civilization...and this is obvious.
I really don't understand why you wrote that question... I don't even believe you seriously meant it... |
