1-Yes, you can, but I can't.
2-No, you can, but I can't.
Which of the sentences 1 or 2 could be an answer to the question?
I think each of them can work depending on the context.
If the question means: 'Do BOTH of us have the ability to help them?', then 2 would be correct.
It the question means: 'Can ONE of us help them?', then 1 would be correct. |

Navi, only #1 seems correct to me. I think if the questioner meant both of us, then the question would be, "Can you and I help them?" Then #2 is a reasonable answer. |
