I guess this sentence means:

smugness partly shows a person's prematurity.

I donna whether my explanation makes sense or not, let's wait for our teachers.

in this sentence, smugness us used as an adjective to describe someone. it means that they were irritatingly self-satified, that they knew an answer to a conclusion, and it was too early for them to make that judgement. does that make sense? iitimone7

Yes. It sounds like they were celebrating a success too soon. In the end, they were not successful after all.

I think I understand now,really,it's the plot of a story about a man and a wonan who were fixed up by their mutual friends,everything seemed go well at first,but later many problems unexpected occured betweem them.So one of their friends said that sentence.

thank you. I am self-taught Embarassed Now you know why my English is so awful Embarassed however, I am still crazy about English.

Well, I often chat with some foreigners via MSN, they told me some informal usages of English words. such as wanna, gonna, gotta, lemme, gimme.

lemme=let me
gimme=give me
donna=don't know
whatcha=what are you=what have you
kinda=kind of
you=ya
