Do you think so?
Some people think studying pronunciation is very important for learning English well, but some people don't think so.
What is your opinion? |

you mean extra studies in pronounciation? hmm.. i don't know if this would be useful because i haven't done it yet, but i think you could learn how to pronounce words in easier ways than to take extra lessons. you coul go abroad, in an english-speaking country, then you can also earn valuable experience. or you can listen to tapes, dvds, cds in english and try to recognize the words, and remember the pronounciation. then you can read texts aloud to pronounce the words yourself. there are many ways. although i can't say if these ways (except for the first) are easy or useful if you can't have lessons in english, too, as i have in school, for example..

extra studies in pronounciation, yes.
I did so, but it didn't seem useful. I studied hard in pronunciation, but now my pronunciation is still awful.
Although I can understand some English movies relatively well, but when I actually speak English, it sounds so different from a native!! very weird pronunciation, it is really funny-sounding. |

that also may be because you're a chinese native and as far as i know is the chinese language pronounciation much different than the english one.. I had much problems with it too, mostly in the first three/four years, but somehow it made "click" and i got it now i can (mostly at least) pronounciate a word i don't know. the most problems a have with the "th", though..

then should I continue on studying pronunciation? I admire you when you said that you practiced your pronunciation for more than 3 years. I am not as patient as you. besides, I believe your gift of learning a second language must be much better than mine. as I said on another board, Europern people are good at learning a new language. that's why most Europern people can speak more than 2 languages.
Anyway, since you can pronunciate well by practicing again and again, I would like to take your step to practice my pronunciation. if I still can't pronunciate english well 3 years later, I am about to give up my practice. |

You should continue to study pronunciation. It will make a world of difference when you speak to others although the different regional accents may still be quite difficult for you to understand at first.
The BBC is a good source to help you with this. |

no, sorry, this was a misunderstanding I didn't study pronounciation, at least not in addition to my normal school studies. i was referring to the fact that i'm studying english in general since 6 years now, and in the first 3 or 4 years i had much more problems than i have now.
But i agree that you should continue with your english studies, maybe you don't need to study extra pronounciation, but don't give up! you're good! _________________ Don't cry because it's over - smile because it happened!
