Dear teachers:
(a)Roses are beautiful.
(b)The rose is beautiful.
(c)A rose is beautiful.
Which one is most commonly used? I think (b) somehow implies a particular rose rather than all roses, but I am used to it in writing. Please show me your opinions.
Thanks. |

Yes, that's right. If you refer to roses in general, you don's use any article. Roses are beautiful. Its a general statement or observation.
The rose is beautiful means that a particular rose is beautiful. The rose I was given was so beautiful.
There is a beautiful rose in the vase. (There is some beautiful rose in the vase) |
