China is the third country who can send space shuttles, after US and Russia. I feel proud of my motherland. |

The earth has many pressing problems that need urgent attention.
All space adventures are a waste of money that could be better spent on earth.
I suspect the real reason for them is military. |

Well, the space program may be run by the military, but if it was purely about national defense, they would not be putting men into orbit. They would be launching spy satellites or test-launching intercontinental ballistic missiles.
A manned space program is about bigger things: advancing human understanding, knowledge, and technology. It can inspire us to do great things and become better than the mere bald apes that we are. |

It should be about all those things you mention, Bob, and on one level it probably is.
There are spy satellites up there and the GPS was intended for the military. (They still control it, incidentally). |
