Both are correct, I think.
The only thing you should notice is that "pain" is a singular form of the plural "pains", but "ache" is a plural form itself.

Hi,
an "ache" is less painful than "pain".
So #1 would be very bad, probably could never do any lifting.
#2 it would always have a little pain, but she could still do things like lifting.

That is just what I think when I hear them. Like admiral said, both are correct.

Both is correct (But in 2 she would suffer from a constant ache)

Pain is a feeling that you have in a part of your body when you are hurt or become ill.

It is simply one of many pains you can have. For example, you can have a sharp pain, a dull pain, a throbbing pain, a constant pain, or an ache. They are all different.

An ache is a continuous pain that is unpleasant, but not very strong. It is less discomforting than constant pain.

Hi, advoca is right. a constant ache is correct grammar, but when I was back in Canada, I started to hear it without the a. But that could just be lazy speakers. What advoca said will always be correct, I don't know about my answer Smile

Maybe in sentence 2, it should be "constant aching" in her back.

"ache" is a noun..
I think no need to change it into a gerund....
