One of my friend has to write a statement of purpose to apply for a graduate school.
He said in that " I am going to discuss my opinions with you in the first year."
He thinks 'is going to' expresses his intention and so, is proper.
But, I think that 'is going to' is not a proper expression, because it is a little bit informal and, above all, can't be used in the situation outside his own control. ( It's not decided whether he will pass or not. and it's outside his control.)
What about your opinion? |

Sounds OK to me. I think i would have said:
"In the first year I will discuss my opinions with you" _________________ ab2146 |
