Please read following sentence.
-- As you know, the tortoise is an animal who lives a thousand years. ---
In this sentence, the relative pronoun 'who' is used. Generally, we use 'which' for things or animals.
But sometimes, we can use 'who' for animals when animals are personified in fairy tales.
So I think this sentence is okay.
Do you agree with me? If you have any different idea, please le me know.

Although in a fable I would expect to see "who" used, in the context that you gave "who" doesn't sound right to me. I would stick with "which."
