Hello Mr. Brown,

(1) Tom is the tallest of all students in his class.
(2) Tom is the tallest of all the students in his class.

I would say (2). If (1) is acceptable, could you explain the difference between them?

1 is just less formal, there isn't really a reason its incorrect.... it just is?
