I started listening to jazz music about half a year ago.
At first I thought it was rubbish ,and hard to understand . But now I am crazy about jazz music because it is so "expressive" and "free". You can get touched and make contact with the performer , it feels so good.

And I even started to make my own "jazzy "music (I play saxophone^^) , and I belevie that's the spirit of Jazz--- to be "creative" and make ur own music. It's lots of fun!! Wink

I agree, Todo. Jazz is about free expression, improvisation. To me the term jazz standard is a non-sequitur. The real question is, why has jazz lost favor with the general public, worldwide. It never was nor will it ever be hugely popular. It will always appeal to a fringe element. But it has in the past been more popular than currently. Jazz titles amount to about 3% of CD sales in the US, much less than was the case in the 1950s and 60s. I believe a new generation of ground breaking jazz artists will spark a revival. It seems inevitable, almost cyclical. - CW
