Does it mean "very intrinsic" ?
Today, money is paper, or even just a constantly rearranging tally inside bank computers. But gold's value is still as intrinsic as it gets. _________________ Hiromichi |

as intrinsic as it gets
Intrinsic is an adjective that means belonging to the essential value of a substance.
So in this context teh speaker is saying that when it comes to money, paper is merely paper. However, gold retains the essential value of wealth.

Kristea, Thank you. My next question is: What is the difference between two expressions?
1. Gold is intrinsic.
2. Gold is as intrinsic as it gets. _________________ Hiromichi |

After some thought, I wouldn't consider the sentences different. However, sentences #1 sounds odd.
The word "intrinsic" is one I wouldn't use as a predicate adjective as it is used in #1. I am more inclined to say...
"Gold has an intrinsic value."
Not much help on this one, I fear. - Kristi _________________ "That man is a success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much." R.L. Stevenson |
