You would rather begin your career with a low wage job or make a head start at something reasonable?

If you want to start a career fresh after completing education, would you ever start with a low wage job? I am asking this because Ive been offered a job at an Institution but they are offering to pay me LOWEST Shocked amount of money than any of the staff.. My class fellow has also been offered a job there but she will be earning TWICE as much as me. I have decided not to take the job, they are going to pay me half of what they will pay my class fellow (shes not even on merit; there are so many people including me who are higher on merit) Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad . You know whats more? They are emotionally blackmailing me trying to tell me its an honor to work in a reputable place and you shouldnt care about money, youll get promotions (it will take me at least 5 years of promotion to earn the same amount of money as any other person of my qualification will be earning else where).

Do you think these people are trying to get me work for them for lowest possible wages? What would you have done? Do you think money doesnt matter in a job and the reputation of your workplace is more important?

If the other person has the same experience and education as you, then I think you are right for refusing to work there. The issue is not just the money. It is the lack of respect they are showing you. How could you work for an employer who treated you so poorly? Would you want to get up every day and go to work at a place where you knew they thought you were worth less than the other people working there? It sounds like a bad situation to me.

When I first graduated from a medicine college, I entered into a hospital, working as a Physician, and that was a low-paid job. but I liked it, because I felt very comfortable when I saw my patients getting cured. so, despite tiredness and low income, I still worked with happiness and pleasure. later I took part in a hard entrance exam by which I got to attend a university for a master's degree. during my study, I still worked for the hospital of my university as a Doctor, and that was a well-paid, part-time job. But I didn't feel as happy as earlier(when I first graduated). because by then, my Job was not so fresh anymore, farther, I had to work under my professor's guidance. I couldn't decide the whole method of treatment by myself. that's pretty depressing.

therefore, what I wanna tell is that salary isn't the most important condition for your first job. rather, if your job can mentally satisfy you and you can learn a lot of skills from it, then it must be a perfect first job for you.

Well, there you have it. A lot of things to think about.
So as I see it, there are only 2 reaasons why you would want to take a lower paying job at the institute:
Rsum building: the experience of working there will look good on your rsum so you can get a better job later at some other place. It is well known among engineers (admiral, pay attention here) that the best way to increase your pay at any company is to quit and go to work at some other place at a higher pay. After a few years, quit that job and go back to your original company for even more money. It's strange but true. If this institute has such a high reputation, use them as a step to a better job someplace else.

Job satisfaction: if you love the challenges and/or opportunities available at this institute and you cannot do the same at some other job, go ahead and take it. There is always time to have a serious money-making career later.
