Lastly, one of the most attractive features of cats as housepets is their *ease* of care.
they don't really need to be taken care of?

Yeah, pretty much - because they clean themselves and don't need to be taken for exercise.
I wouldn't say that it means they don't really need to be taken care of. It's more like, they need a lot less caring for than dogs (which must be bathed and walked regularly).
